    BIODEGRADABLE PLASTICS - PBS 

    Product Description

    PBS is polymerized from succinic acid and 1, 4-butanediol (BDO), which has the advantages of good stability, good heat resistance, similar mechanical properties and processing properties to PP, and good film formation. The disadvantages are low transparency and hardness, and the insufficient supply of succinic acid limits the overall development of the industry. PBS can be used in packaging (including food packaging, cosmetics bottles, medicine bottles), tableware, disposable medical supplies, agricultural film, pesticide and fertilizer slow-release materials, biomedical polymer materials and other fields. The synthesis methods include direct esterification, transesterification and chain extension. In the direct esterification method, succinic acid and 1,4 monobutanediol are first esterified and dehydrated at a low reaction temperature to form hydroxy-terminated oligomer, and then dediol at high temperature, high vacuum and in the presence of catalyst to obtain PBS. Dimethyl succinate or diethyl ester is transesterification reaction with 1, 4-butanediol in the presence of catalyst, dibutanediol succinate is obtained by the removal of methanol or ethanol, and then PBS is obtained under the condition of high temperature, high vacuum and catalyst. Chain extension method is the use of reactive groups and PBS end-group reaction to achieve molecular chain growth, this method has the advantages of convenience, high efficiency, low equipment investment. However, the chain extender is usually isocyanate, which is more toxic and easy to cause residue in the product, so the application in food packaging and medical products is limited. In recent years, the production and research of PBS in China mainly focus on the selection of catalysts and the control of reaction conditions, and adopt the direct esterification and polycondensation method.

    Storage
    "Temperatures during transportation and storage should not exceed 40 ºC. Keep resin in dry and ventilated warehouse to prevent moisture. Avoid contacting with soil, water and sludge, and no exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperature.

    The maximum shelf life is 2 years in ambient temperature of 23ºC if the package has been tightly sealed.

    Drying
    It is recommended to pre-dry the material prior to getting the best processing performance. If the moisture of the resin is less than 0.05% pre-drying may not be needed.


    Typical drying conditions:4-6 hours at 80ºC (175ºF)."
