Pyraclostazolyl sulfone is a kind of ultra-long chain fatty acid elongation synthase inhibitor herbicide. Herbicides with this mechanism of action can greatly reduce the biosynthesis of very-long-chain fatty acid elongase ( VLCFAE ) and cause the accumulation of fatty acid precursors in cells after treating weed roots or seedlings. The specificity of pyraclostrobin inhibits the elongation steps of C18 : 0 ( stearic acid ) to C20 : 0 ( arachidic acid ), C20 : 0 to C22 : 0 ( behenic acid ), C22 : 0 to C24 : 0 ( tetracosanoic acid ), C24 : 0 to C26 : 0 ( wax acid ) and C26 : 0 to C28 : 0 ( lignite acid ) catalyzed by VLCFA elongase ( VLCF ae ) in plants, including rice, and is classified as a K3 herbicide.

Many products in herbicides have this mechanism of action, such as acetochlor, metolachlor, and pyrachlor of chloroacetamide herbicides, and benzoxamide of oxoamide herbicides. However, the biological activity of acetochlor and metolachlor is much lower than that of sulfonylpyrazole, and the dosage per unit area is 8-10 times higher than that of sulfonylpyrazole. Therefore, sulfonylpyrazole has received high attention and extensive attention once it is launched.
