    Properties】 

    Colorless transparent liquid. strong acid. It cannot exist in pure form and can only exist in aqueous solution. Industrial products are generally about 42-48% aqueous solution. The relative density of 42% aqueous solution is 1.32 and the relative density of 48% aqueous solution is 1.37. Decomposes when heated to 130°C. Miscible with water or alcohol. It decomposes slowly in aqueous solution to generate hydroxyfluoroboric acid (HBF 3 OH). The stability gradually decreased when in contact with the glass surface. The hydrolysis degree of the 0.047M fluoroboric acid solution increased from 20.6% to 72% after being kept in the glass bottle for 32 days. It is highly corrosive, but does not corrode glass at room temperature. It can react with metal elements, metal fluorides, oxides, hydroxides or carbonates to form the corresponding fluoroborate. poisonous.


    [Use] 

    Used as a cleaning and corrosive agent for metal surface oxides and silicate films, and for cleaning aluminum and aluminum alloys before electroplating. The 2.5% solution is used for electrolytic polishing of pure aluminum to remove flux and rewashing of electroplated parts from the metal substrate. Used as catalyst for alkylation and polymerization reactions, preservative, chemical reagent and raw material for preparing various fluoroborates.

    Reactivity Profile:

    FLUOROBORIC ACID is a strong acid. Reacts exothermically with chemical bases (examples: amines, amides, and inorganic hydroxides). These reactions can generate dangerously large amounts of heat in small spaces. Dissolution in water or the dilution of a concentrated aqueous solution may generate significant heat. Reacts with active metals, including such structural metals as aluminum and iron, to release hydrogen, a flammable gas. Can initiate the polymerization of certain alkenes. Reacts with cyanide compounds to release gaseous hydrogen cyanide. Generates flammable and/or toxic gases in contact with dithiocarbamates, isocyanates, mercaptans, nitrides, nitriles, sulfides, and strong reducing agents. Additional gas-generating reactions occur with sulfites, nitrites, thiosulfates (to give H2S and SO3), dithionites (SO2), and carbonates. May catalyze (increase the rate of) chemical reactions. Attempted drying of the acid with acetic anhydride caused an explosion at 0°C [J. Organomet. Chem., 1975, 94, 319].
