N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-piperidone is an important pesticide, as well as an intermediate in medicine and other chemical additives. There are various synthesis methods available:
(1) 1-benzyl-3-piperidone hydrochloride was prepared from γ-butyrolactone through a six-step reaction of benzylamine amolysis, hydrolysis, esterification, condensation with ethyl bromoacetate, cyclization and water decarboxylation, and then n-tert-butyl-3-piperidone was obtained by debenzyl-tert-butyl-3-piperidone (US0053565).
(2) Using 3-hydroxypyridine as raw material, the reaction with bromobenzyl to produce quaternary ammonium salt, sodium borohydride reduction, palladium carbon debenzyl tert-butoxy-3-piperidone was oxidized by oxaloyl chloride and dimethyl sulfoxide at low temperature (CN103204801)

N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-3-piperidone is used for stereocontrolled synthesis of chiral compounds
