What is Boswellia ?
Frankincense is a fragrant resin containing volatile oils produced by plants of the genus Boswellia, mainly produced by the Boswellia, Boswellia bovis, Boswellia dentata, and Boswellia papaya. It is collected by cutting a wound in the bark of the frankincense tree, from which a milky sap flows, which hardens in contact with the air and becomes a translucent clot of white, green, yellow or reddish colour.
What is Boswellic Acid?
Boswellic acids (BAs) are important active components of the plant Boswellia serrata and have been widely used to treat several acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. These acids have shown very potent anti-inflammatory activity in vitro and in vivo in animal models. Similarly, their anti-arthritic, anti-rheumatic, anti-diarrheal, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-asthmatic, anticarcinogenic, anti-microbial, analgesic activity, hepatoprotective and immunomodulatory activities have been reported.

Function
Anti-Inflammatory. One of the most well-known benefits of boswellia serrata resin is its anti-inflammatory properties. The boswellic acids have been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which can help reduce inflammation throughout the body. This can be especially beneficial for people with chronic inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Pain Relief. Boswellia serrata extract has also been shown to have analgesic properties, meaning it can help relieve pain. This is likely due to its ability to reduce inflammation, which is a common cause of pain in many conditions.
Joint Health. Several studies have found that organic boswellia serrata can help improve joint health in people with osteoarthritis. One study found that a supplement containing Boswellia serrata extract was able to reduce pain and improve physical function in people with knee osteoarthritis.
Respiratory Health. Boswellia has been used in traditional medicine to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. Some studies have found that it may be effective in reducing symptoms and improving lung function in people with these conditions.
Anti-Cancer Potential. Some studies have suggested that Boswellia serrata may have anti-cancer properties. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells, including breast, colon, and prostate cancer cells. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.
