What is Sodium Hypophosphite ?

Sodium hypophosphite is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NaH2PO2. It is a colorless crystal or white powder with pearl luster. It is salty and deliquescent. Intensive heating will liberate phosphine and immediately catch fire in the air. Mixing with strong oxidants will cause an explosion. Easily soluble in glycerin and hot ethanol, soluble in water and cold ethanol, slightly soluble in absolute ethanol, insoluble in ether. The aqueous solution is neutral. It is obtained by neutralizing hypophosphorous acid with sodium carbonate. Used as a reducing agent in medicines, laboratory reagents and nickel plating.

Sodium hypophosphate is mainly used as a reducing agent for electroless nickel plating. It can combine with nickel to form chelates and control pH, which can effectively improve the surface properties and finish of nickel plating products. Usage

Colorless monoclinic crystal (or acicular crystal) powder, colorless, odorless, salty, deliquescent, soluble in water, glycerol, alcohol, insoluble in ether. 

It is mainly used as reducing agent for electroless plating. For large equipment and small objects that cannot be electroplated, or for complex shape with concave convex lines, or for inner wall of deep hole, or for surface hardness and wear resistance, or for surface metallization of plastic ceramics, glass, quartz and other non-metallic materials, dense and uniform Ni-P coating can be obtained, which is better than electroplating. Widely used in electronics, aviation, machinery, petroleum and other industries. It can also be used as interface activator, molecular weight regulator and heat stabilizer of synthetic resin.
