Most azelaic acid is used in the production of dioctyl azelate (DOZ) plasticizers, while others are used as raw materials for fragrances, lubricants, oils, and polyamide resins. DOZ is used as a cold-resistant plasticizing material for cables, films, artificial leather, etc., with low volatility and good aging resistance. DOZ can also be used as a softener for synthetic rubber. The azelaic acid used in the production of DOZ in Japan accounts for about 70% of the total consumption of azelaic acid. Azelanedinitrile can be prepared by dehydration of azelaic acid with ammonia.
