Brief Introduction:

Benzophenone-12, also known as UV-531 or Octabenzone, is an excellent and efficient anti-aging agent. It is mainly used to absorb ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 240-340 nanometers, especially in the range of 270-330 nanometers.

Benzophenone-12 has the characteristics of light colour, non-toxicity, good compatibility, low migration, and easy processing, also has a good protective effect on polymers, can reduce colour changes, delay yellowing, and block physical property losses.

Benzophenone-12 (UV-531) is widely used in various plastics, coatings and rubber products. Specific applications include:

‌1) Plastics: Polyethylene (PE), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Polypropylene (PP), Polystyrene (PS), Polycarbonate (PC), Plexiglass, Polypropylene Fiber and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate, etc.

2) Coatings: Dry Phenolic and Alkyd Varnishes, Polyurethanes, Acrylics, Epoxies and other air-drying products and automotive refinishing paints, powder coatings, etc.

3) Rubber Products: Polyurethane, Rubber Products, etc.

In addition, due to its low toxicity and good compatibility, BP-12 (UV-531) is also often used in children's plastics and plastic packaging materials in contact with food.

Usage and Safety:

The dosage of Benzophenone-12 (UV-531) is generally 0.1% to 1%, and the specific dosage can be adjusted according to the specific application.

It is environmentally friendly and has low toxicity. Many countries allow its use in plasticized products that come into contact with food, such as polyolefins in the United States.

Recommended Addition: 0.6% (UK), 0.5% (Italy), 0.5% (Japan).
