Nature
It is a kind of water-rich magnesium silicate clay mineral with chain layer structure. The chemical formula of attapulgite is Mgs (H2 0)4 [Si4 010]2(OH)2, and the theoretical chemical composition is Mg02 3.83%, Si02 56.96% and H2 0 19.21%. Attapulgite in nature is often A13+, Fe3+, and other isotypic replacement, A13+, Fe3+ rich variants called aluminum attapulgite and iron attapulgite. Monoclinic crystal system, whose crystal structure belongs to the 2:1 clay mineral, that is, two layers of silica tetrahedron with a layer of magnesium < aluminum) oxygen octahedron. Can appear white, light gray, light green or light brown. Attapulgite clay is delicate, greasy and slippery, light in weight, brittle and strong in water absorption. It has strong hygroscopicity when dry, and has high plasticity when hygroscopicity contains water. Good stability in high temperature and brine, low density, generally 2.05 ~ 2.30g/cm3, hardness Mohs 2 ~ 3, hardness >5 after heating.
