      Properties Soluble in carbon disulfide, carbon tetrachloride and benzoyl chloride. Hydrolyzed into phosphoric acid and hydrogen chloride in moist air, producing white smoke and special irritating smell. Starts to sublime when heated to 160℃ and partially decomposes. Completely decomposes into chlorine and phosphorus trichloride at 300℃. Pure product is white, and becomes light yellow due to partial decomposition into phosphorus trichloride and chlorine gas after standing. Uses Used as chlorinating agent, catalyst, dehydrating agent. Content analysis Accurately weigh about 1g of the sample, put it in an appropriate pressure-resistant bottle, add 25.0ml of 1mol/L potassium hydroxide solution and 15ml of isopropanol, add a stopper, wrap it with cloth and put it in a canvas bag. Put it in a water bath at 98℃±2℃ and heat it for 1h. The water level in the water bath should be slightly higher than the liquid level in the bottle. Take out the bottle from the bag, cool it to room temperature in the air, loosen the cloth and bottle stopper to release the residual pressure in the bottle, and then remove the cloth. Add 6-8 drops of phenolphthalein test solution (TS-167) and titrate the excess alkali with 0.5 mol/L sulfuric acid until the pink color just disappears. At the same time, perform a blank test as above. Each milliliter of 0.5 mol/L sulfuric acid is equivalent to 36.37 mg of triacetin (C9H14O6).
