    Description

    Estradiol enantate (E2-EN or EEn), also spelled estradiol enanthate and sold under the brand names Perlutal and Topasel among others, is an estrogen medication which is used in hormonal birth control for women. It is formulated in combination with dihydroxyprogesterone acetophenide (DHPA; algestone acetophenide), a progestin, and is used specifically as a combined injectable contraceptive. Estradiol enantate is not available for medical use alone. The medication, in combination with DHPA, is given by injection into muscle once a month.

    Side effects of estradiol enantate include breast tenderness, breast enlargement, nausea, headache, and fluid retention. Estradiol enantate is a synthetic estrogen and hence is an agonist of the estrogen receptor, the biological target of estrogens like estradiol. It is an estrogen ester and a long-lasting prodrug of estradiol in the body. Because of this, it is considered to be a natural and bioidentical form of estrogen.

    Estradiol enantate was first described by 1954, and was first studied in combination with DHPA as a combined injectable contraceptive in 1964.The combination was introduced for clinical use by the mid-1970s. Estradiol enantate is not available as a standalone medication (i.e., by itself without DHPA). The combination is available in Latin America and Hong Kong, and was also previously marketed in Spain and Portugal.

    Estradiol enanthate (INN, USAN), or estradiol enantate, is a synthetic ester, specifically the 17-heptanoyl ester, of the natural estrogen, estradiol.It is marketed under the brand names Anafertin, Deladroxate, Perlutan, and Topasel, which are combination formulations of estradiol enanthate and dihydroxyprogesterone acetophenide, as a once-monthly injectable hormonal contraceptive in Spain and Latin America, and has been used as such since at least the mid-1960s.


    Oestradiol 17-heptanoate is a sex hormone that is present in both males and females, and is the most important form of estrogen in humans. In women, it plays a key role in the development and functioning of the reproductive system, as well as in the growth of certain bones. It also governs the distribution of body fat in women and is the main hormone responsible for the fact that women are shorter than men, on average. Both the ovaries and the adrenal glands produce it.

    Description Estradiolbenzoate is a synthetic ester, especially 3-benzoyl ester, natural estrogen, estradiol. Estrogens guides the development of female genes during embryonic development and puberty. Estradiol is the main female hormone secreted by the ovaries before menopause. Estradiolbenzoat Chemicalbooke is an estradiol analogue that contains a benzyl ester at the C-3 position and is often used in combination with progesterone to induce estrus in livestock. The compound binds to human and mouse estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), and chicken ER, with IC50 values ranging from 22-28 nM.


    This reflects a 6-10 fold reduction in affinity compared to estradiol.
    Application The effects of daily injections of 5 microgram estradiol benzoate (EB) on the patterns of food and ethano consumption were studied in ovarectomized rats given free access to food, a 10% ethano solution, and water. EB led to an immediate, but transient, suppression of both food and ethano intake. The time course and magnitude of these effects were virtually identical. While the decrease in total food intake was achieved by a permanent decrease in the duration of eating bouts, the decline in total ethano consumption apparently resulted from decreased rates of licking within bouts.


    Gradual increases in the frequency of eating and ethano-drinking bouts allowed total food and ethano intake to return to baseline within three weeks of the first injection. Total water intake rose three-fold during EB administration and this was due to increases in both the duration and frequency of drinking bouts. The similarity in effects induced by EB on the patterns of food and ethano intake were discussed in terms of ethano's caloric property.
