      Product Detail

Sodium metasilicate is a salt of silicic acid, belonging to inorganic salt products, with the molecular formula Na2SiO3 · nH2O. It is a non-toxic, odorless, and pollution-free white powder or crystalline particle that is easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohols and acids. The aqueous solution is alkaline and easily hygroscopic and deliquescent when placed in air. It has the ability to remove scale, emulsify, disperse, wet, penetrate, and buffer pH values. It has been listed as one of the "priority fine chemicals for development in China" and "future development priorities for inorganic chemical products in China" by the state Sodium metasilicate is a low molecular weight crystal produced by the thermal reaction of ordinary alkali and caustic soda water. Its products include anhydrous, pentahydrate, and nonahydrate. Among them, nonahydrate only exists in the Chinese market and was hastily developed as an emergency product with low technical content in the 1980s due to the urgent need for sodium metasilicate. Its melting point is only 42 ℃, and it releases crystallization water at 30-40 ℃, which is inconvenient to use. It is easy to become liquid or paste when stored and is gradually being phased out. However, due to some users' habits and some fields not paying much attention to crystallization water, nonahydrate sodium metasilicate still has a certain market.

Sodium metasilicate is a type of silicic acid salt and is classified as an inorganic salt products, and its molecular formula is Na2SiO3•nH2O. It is a non-toxic, odorless and harmless white powder or crystalline particle. It is soluble in water, but not in alcohols or acids. Its aqueous solution is alkaline and is capable of hygroscopy and deliquescence when in contact with air. It has purifying, emulsifying, dispersing, moistening, permeating and PH buffering abilities. The metasilicates are highly water soluble, but insoluble in alcohol, acid, and salt solutions. Solutions of sodium metasilicate, when heated or acidified, are hydrolyzed to free sodium ions and silicic acid. In moist air, they are corrosive to metals, including zinc, aluminum, tin, and lead, forming hydrogen gas. They are all strong bases reacting violently with acid.

Deliquescent. Water soluble [Handbook of Chemistry and Physics].

    Reactive Group:

    Salts, Basic

    Reactivity Profile:

SODIUM SILICATE contains a variable amount of water of hydration. Rate of dissolution depends on the degree of hydration, the amount of water that is used as solvent (less soluble in large amounts of water) and the temperature (higher temperature means quicker solution). Aqueous solutions react as bases. Reacts violently with fluorine [Lewis.]

    Autoignition Temperature:

    Not flammable (USCG, 1999)

    Corrosivity:

Sodium metasilicate is considered to be too corrosive to be widely used in consumer product laundering formulations.
