Lawson's reagent, also known as Lawson's reagent, is a chemical reagent commonly used to prepare organic sulfur compounds. It is a slightly yellow solid powder at room temperature and pressure, with a strong and unpleasant odor of decay. It was first synthesized in 1956 by reacting aromatic hydrocarbons with tetraphosphorus decasulfide. Swedish chemist Sven Olov Lawesson carefully studied its reaction with organic compounds, which greatly promoted its application, hence the name. The molecule of Lawson reagent contains a quaternary ring structure composed of alternating sulfur and phosphorus. During heating, depolymerization occurs, resulting in the formation of two unstable thiophosphorus ylides (RChemicalbook-PS2), which are the main reactive intermediates. When using two different substituents in the Lawson reagent reaction, molecules with interchangeable substituents were observed in the 31NMR spectrum of the product, thus confirming the existence of intermediate R-PS2. Lawson reagent is an oxygen sulfur exchange reagent, most commonly used in the preparation of thioamides, which converts carbonyl compounds into thiocarbonyl compounds. The substrates that can be reacted include ketones, esters, lactones, amides, lactams, quinones, etc. Carbonyl groups with rich electrons are more reactive. When reacting with α, β - unsaturated aldehydes and ketones, the double bond is not affected

    Related chemical reactions:

    1. Aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic aromatic primary amides can react well with Lawson reagents. Tetraphosphorus decasulfide is also a commonly used sulfurizing reagent, but its use sometimes leads to the decomposition of amides to produce nitriles and hydrogen sulfide, thereby reducing the reaction yield. 2. A mixture of silver perchlorate and Lawson reagent can be used as an oxygen-containing Lewis acid to catalyze the Diels Alder reaction of dienes with alpha, beta unsaturated aldehydes. 3,1,4-Chemical book - Diketone reacts with Lawson reagent to cyclize into thiophene. Tetraphosphorus decasulfide can also be used for the reaction, but the reaction requires a higher temperature. 4. Lawson reagent reacts with sulfoxide to produce thio products, which are then desulfurized to produce thioethers. Therefore, it can be used as a reducing agent for sulfoxides. 5. The yield of the reaction between Lawson reagent and amides with hydroxyl or amino groups adjacent to the benzene ring is not high due to the formation of the following by-products. This reaction can be used for the preparation of thiomonoalkyl phosphonate compounds.

Sulfurization reagent, recently used as a sulfur hybridization reagent for in-situ generation of trophione at room temperature and capture using diene affinity.
