Mornenomycin, also known as "rumen hormone", is a substance secreted by the microorganism Streptomyces coelicolor. The sodium salt of Mornenomycin can affect the ion balance of the insect body, causing it to rupture and die. It also has the functions of controlling the proportion of volatile fatty acids in the rumen, reducing the degradation of protein in the rumen, reducing dry matter consumption in feed, improving nutrient utilization efficiency, and enhancing animal energy utilization efficiency. It is widely added to the feed of ruminants, mainly used to prevent and treat coccidiosis in chickens, lambs, calves, and rabbits, and to promote the growth of ruminants.

It mainly acts in the early stage of the life cycle of coccidiosis (from spores to the first generation of schizonts), interfering with the normal exchange of sodium and potassium ions in coccidiosis cells, causing a large amount of sodium ions to enter the cell, resulting in an increase in sodium ion concentration and osmotic pressure inside the cell.
