Dichloroethane is a compound in which two hydrogen atoms in the ethane molecule are replaced by two chlorine atoms, with two isomers: 1, 1-dichloroethane and 1, 2-dichloroethane. The structural formulas are CH3-CHCl2 and ClCH2-CH2Cl respectively.

1, 2-dichloroethane is also known as ethylene dichloride. Colorless oily liquid. Smells of chloroform. It's sweet. The relative density is 1.2351. Melting point -35.3℃, freezing point -40℃. Boiling point 83.5℃, 20℃(8.399×103Pa). Refractive index 1.4448. Flash point 21℃, 17℃(closed). The ignition point is 413℃. Viscosity 0.84mPa·s(20℃). Vapor pressure (x 103 pa) : 3.333 (0 ℃), 5.333 (10 ℃), 8.399 (20 ℃), 13.332 (30 ℃), 31.997 (50 ℃). Slightly soluble in water (0.92 at 0℃, 0.87 at 20℃), soluble in ethanol, acetone and benzene. This product and water can be composed of binary azeotrope, at this time the content of this product is 81.5%, the azeotrope point of 72℃. 1, 2-dichloroethane and water, ethyl alcohol can be composed of ternary azeotrope, at this time the content of this product is 78%, ethanol 17%, the azeotrope point of 66.7℃. Dichloroethane can be used as the standard material for chromatographic analysis. Used in the manufacture of trichloroethane, dichloroethylene, ethylene glycol, ethylenediamine, oxalic acid, polyvinyl chloride, nylon, viscose artificial fiber, styrene-butadiene rubber and various plastics, fragrances, soaps, adhesives, emollients, medicines and fake paints; Used as solvents for resins, bitumen, rubber, cellulose acetate, cellulose Chemicalbook esters, paints, oils, waxes and polymers (such as polystyrene), extractants, impregnators, wetting agents, penetrants, fumigators, pesticides, herbicides and insecticides; Dichloroethane can also be used in photography, electrostatic printing, water softening.
