2. Physical and chemical properties

Appearance: Red light dark blue powder, or dark purple brown crystalline powder.

Melting point: 174-180 ℃

Flash point: 14 ℃

Solubility: Insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water, with a bright red blue aqueous solution and a purple color when added with sodium hydroxide solution; Slightly soluble in ethanol, it appears bright blue, and in concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears orange red. After dilution, it turns blue.

3. Purpose

a. Protein detection: It is the most commonly used dye for detecting protein dissolved in SDS-PAGE gel. Through electrostatic binding with amino and carboxyl groups in the protein and van der Waals force, it forms a strong but non covalent bond linked complex with the protein, so that the protein strip can be colored for easy observation and analysis. The dyeing sensitivity is 5 times higher than that of amino black, up to 0.1 µ g protein.

b. Textile printing and dyeing: can be used for dyeing fabrics such as wool, silk, nylon, etc., can give fabrics a bright blue color tone, and has good color fastness.

c. Other applications: Used for dyeing paper in the paper industry, and can also be used as a biological staining agent for observing the staining of certain biological cells or tissues.
