Cyclosporine A is a calcineurin inhibitor and a commonly used drug in the treatment of aplastic anemia. It can selectively inhibit the immune response and has certain applications in the clinical treatment of diseases such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

Cyclosporin is a strong immunosuppressant that can inhibit the onset of cell mediator reactions and reversibly inhibit T cell proliferation. It does not inhibit the formation of blood cells or affect the function of phagocytes. Therefore, compared with other inhibitors, it has the advantage of less inducing or aggravating infection. It is mainly used clinically for anti-rejection reactions in kidney, liver, heart, lung, and bone marrow transplantation.

CYCLOSPORIN A is an amide. Amides/imides react with azo and diazo compounds to generate toxic gases. Flammable gases are formed by the reaction of organic amides/imides with strong reducing agents. Amides are very weak bases (weaker than water). Imides are less basic yet and in fact react with strong bases to form salts. That is, they can react as acids. Mixing amides with dehydrating agents such as P2O5 or SOCl2 generates the corresponding nitrile. The combustion of these compounds generates mixed oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
