Chemical property

Polymer of ethylene oxide and water. Those with molecular weight below 700 are colorless, odorless, non-volatile viscous liquids at 20℃, slightly hygroscopic. Those with molecular weight ranging from 700 to 900 are semi-solid. Those with molecular weight above 1000 are pale white waxy solids or flocculent paraffin or flowable powders. They are miscible with water and soluble in many organic solvents such as alcohols, ketones, chloroform, glyceride esters and aromatic hydrocarbons; insoluble in most aliphatic hydrocarbons and ether. With the increase of molecular weight, their water solubility, vapor pressure, hygroscopicity and solubility in organic solvents decrease accordingly, while their freezing point, relative density, flash point and viscosity increase accordingly. It is heat stable, does not react with many chemicals and does not hydrolyze.
