Temsirolimus, also known as temsirolimus ester, is the first targeted therapy for kidney cancer and the only marketed drug that specifically inhibits m TOR kinase.
m TOR kinase is an important protein used to regulate cell proliferation, growth and cell survival. In vitro studies have found that temsirolimus inhibiting m OR kinase leads to a decrease in the levels of certain angiogenesis factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor, thereby preventing the development of new blood vessels, resulting in cancer cell death.
