New type of antihypertensive drugs
Telmisartan is a new type of antihypertensive drug, which is a specific angiotensin II receptor (ATⅠ type) antagonist and is used for the treatment of essential hypertension. It substitutes for the high affinity binding of angiotensin II receptors with ATⅠ receptor subtypes (known angiotensin II action sites). Telmisartan has no any site agonist effect at the ATⅠ receptor site and selectively binds to the ATⅠ receptor. This binding effect persists for a long time. It has no affinity for other receptors (including AT2 and other less characterized AT receptors). The functions of these other receptors are unknown. The possible receptor overstimulation effect caused by the increase in angiotensin II levels due to telmisartan is also unknown. Telmisartan does not inhibit human plasma renin and does not block ion channels. It does not inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme II, which can also degrade bradykinin and cause adverse reactions.

Appearance and Solubility
White to off-white crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. Soluble in chloroform, slightly soluble in methanol, extremely slightly soluble in acetone, and almost insoluble in water. Slightly soluble in 0.1 mol/L hydrochloric acid, and soluble in 0.1 mol/L sodium hydroxide. Absorption coefficient (E1%1cm): 509 - 541
