    1. Basic information

Chemical name: Methylene blue, also known as methylene blue, tetramethyl blue, etc

    English name: Methylene Blue

    Molecular formula: C 16 H 18 ClN 3 S·3H 2 O

    Molecular weight: 373.9 g/mol (anhydrous)

    EC number: 200-515-2

    2. Physical and chemical properties

Appearance: Bright dark green crystals or small dark brown powder, with bronze luster, odorless, stable in air.

Solubility: 1g is soluble in approximately 25ml of water and 65ml of ethanol, with a sky blue solution. It is soluble in chloroform and insoluble in ether and benzene.

    Melting point: 180 ° C (decomposition)

    PH value: 3 (10g/L, H2O, 20 ° C)

Spectral characteristics: maximum absorption wavelength 668, 609nm

    3. Purpose

    a. Biological field

Bacterial staining agent: It can stain bacterial cells and facilitate the observation of bacterial morphology, structure, and arrangement under a microscope. It is commonly used in bacteriological experiments such as Gram staining.

Cell staining: Prepare staining solution for exfoliated cells to stain exfoliated cells and assist in pathological diagnosis. Alkaline methylene blue staining solution can also be prepared for staining microbial cells and tissue sections.

    b. In the field of chemical analysis

Redox indicator: In redox titration, the endpoint of the titration is indicated by a change in color.

Measurement of metal ions: used to determine the content of metal ions such as mercury and tin.

Precipitant: used as a reducing titrant to precipitate perchlorates and rhenium salts.

    c. Medical field

Treatment of methemoglobinemia: Reduce methemoglobin to normal hemoglobin and restore its oxygen carrying function.

Treatment of cyanide poisoning: When used in combination with sodium thiosulfate, cyanide ions can be converted into relatively non-toxic thiocyanate and excreted from the body.

Other: Methylene blue also has anti malaria, anti depression, and anti anxiety effects, and can be used for research and treatment of related diseases.

    d. Other fields

Aquaculture: used to control diseases such as water mold and small melon worms, with minimal damage to fish.

In the industrial sector, it is used for dyeing cotton, acrylic fiber, linen, silk, paper, as well as for coloring bamboo and wood, and for manufacturing ink and color lakes.

    Pls input...

Methylene blue was first synthesized by zinc chloride salt in 1876, and then mainly used in: (1) methemoglobinemia: low concentration methylene blue is used to treat methemoglobinemia caused by nitrite, chlorate, quinone, quinone imide, aniline and nitrobenzene; (2) cyanide poisoning: high concentrations of methylene blue can be used for cyanide poisoning; (3) Combined with local Chemicalbook anesthetic for local analgesia; (4) In recent years, clinical trials have also been used to treat infectious and traumatic shock, cancer, herpes zoster, etc. Pharmacological studies have shown that methylene blue has detoxification, analgesia, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-tumor effects, and can correct the hemodynamic disorder of septic shock patients and treat abnormal penile erection.  Product Detail
