    Product Name:  N-(2-Bromo-5-fluorophenyl)acetamide
    CAS Registry Number:  1009-06-9
    Synonyms:

    1-(2-Bromo-5-fluorophenyl)acetamide

    Acetamide, N-(2-bromo-5-fluorophenyl)-

    2'-Bromo-5'-fluoroacetanilide

    N-Acetyl-2-bromo-5-fluoroaniline

    Molecular Formula:  C₈H₇BrFNO
    Molecular Weight:  232.05 g/mol

    Appearance

Typically a white to off-white or light tan crystalline solid or powder.

    Key Chemical Properties

Functional Groups:  Secondary amide (acetamide), aryl bromide (bromobenzene), aryl fluoride (fluorobenzene).

    Reactivity:

The  aryl bromide (C-Br bond)  is highly susceptible to cross-coupling reactions (e.g., Suzuki, Stille, Negishi coupling) for introducing new substituents.

The  aryl fluoride (C-F bond) , while less reactive than bromide, can participate in nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) with strong nucleophiles, especially given the electron-withdrawing acetamide group ortho to it.

The  amide group  can be hydrolyzed (acidic or basic conditions) to regenerate the corresponding aniline derivative, N-(2-bromo-5-fluorophenyl)amine, which is valuable for diazotization or further derivatization. It can also participate in directed ortho-metalation (DoM) or be deprotonated for further functionalization under strong bases.

Can act as a directing group in transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation reactions.

    Typical Applications

Organic Synthesis Intermediate:  Primarily used as a versatile building block in multi-step organic syntheses, especially in medicinal chemistry and agrochemical research.

Pharmaceutical Intermediates:  Key precursor for synthesizing more complex molecules targeting various biological activities. The halogen handles allow for diversification at specific positions on the aromatic ring.

Agrochemical Intermediates:  Used in the synthesis of potential herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides.

Material Science:  Potential building block for specialty polymers or functional materials.

Research Chemical:  Utilized in developing new synthetic methodologies, particularly those involving cross-coupling or C-H functionalization.

    Purity

Commonly available in research quantities at purities of  97% to 99%  (determined by HPLC, GC, or NMR). Higher purities (e.g., >99%) may be available upon request.

    Handling & Storage

Storage Conditions:  Store in a cool (2-8°C), dry place, protected from light and moisture, in a well-sealed container under an inert atmosphere (e.g., nitrogen or argon) for long-term stability. Minimize exposure to air.

Stability:  Stable under recommended storage conditions. May decompose if exposed to strong acids, bases, oxidizing agents, or prolonged heat/light.
