    Dibutyl malonate is an ester formed by the simultaneous combination of two carboxyl groups of malonic acid and an alkyl group. The ester of malonic acid was discovered as early as 1858 by M. Dessaignes from the oxidised product of malic acid. Dibutyl malonate is a low melting point compound. Malonic acid esters are generally used as raw materials for the synthesis of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes and fragrances.
