Basic Violet 1

Physical and chemical properties: Methyl violet, also known as gentian violet, is an alkaline dye that is a mixture of tetramethyl chloride pentamethyl chloride and hexamethyl chloride para rosaniline. It is a dark green purple powder or fragments with metallic luster, and has a very slight odor. Soluble in water, ethanol, chloroform, all purple in color, insoluble in ether. Prepared by co heating dimethyl substituted aniline, phenol, table salt, and copper sulfate. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used for dyeing wool, silk, and cotton products treated with tannins. It is also used for dyeing straw, paper, leather, fat, feathers, as well as for making ink, printing colors, carbon paper, color pencils, etc. In medicine, it is mainly used as a disinfectant and preservative, and its pure product is a 10g/L aqueous solution, commonly known as purple medicine solution. Used for infections caused by Gram positive bacteria and fungi, ulcers on mucous membranes and skin, and also for burns. Oral administration can also treat pinworm infections.
