Carbomer is a synthetic high–molecular weight polymer of cross-linked with polyalkenyl ethers or divinyl glycol. It is one of the most common thickening, gelling, and stabilizing agents used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and personal-care formulations.

It is usually supplied as a fluffy white powder that swells in water to form very clear gels.
