    Product Introduction

    Item Cephalonium
    Cas No. 5575-21-3
    Purity >99

    1. Product Overview

    Cephalonium (CAS No.: 5575-21-3), also known as Cefalonium, is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic mainly applied in veterinary medicine, with potent narrow-to-broad spectrum antibacterial activity. It is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder with high purity, excellent chemical stability under standard storage conditions and moderate water solubility. As a semi-synthetic β-lactam antibiotic, it has strong stability against β-lactamases produced by most pathogenic bacteria in livestock and poultry, with definite and lasting antibacterial efficacy and good tolerability in animals. Compared with other first-generation cephalosporins, it has enhanced antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria and partial gram-negative bacteria, and is widely used in the treatment and prevention of bacterial infections in livestock and poultry. The product is manufactured in strict compliance with GMP veterinary drug quality standards, with a purity of ≥98% (HPLC), featuring stable and reliable performance, and can meet the application requirements of veterinary drug production, animal husbandry and scientific research.

    2. Mechanism of Action

    Cephalonium exerts its bactericidal effect by specifically inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the cytoplasmic membrane of sensitive bacteria, interfering with the cross-linking reaction of peptidoglycan chains during bacterial cell wall formation, leading to defective and fragile bacterial cell wall construction. Eventually, the bacteria lose their osmotic pressure balance, swell and rupture, thus achieving the purpose of killing sensitive bacteria. It has a strong bactericidal effect on gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus spp., and partial gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella spp., which are common in livestock and poultry infections.

    3. Core Functions & Antibacterial Spectrum

    Targeted antibacterial activity for livestock and poultry

    It has a strong inhibitory and killing effect on a variety of pathogenic bacteria common in animal husbandry, including susceptible strains such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida in cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry.

    Excellent β-lactamase resistance

    It is highly stable to β-lactamases produced by most drug-resistant strains of livestock and poultry pathogenic bacteria, and has a significant therapeutic effect on infections caused by β-lactamase-producing drug-resistant bacteria, effectively solving the problem of drug resistance in animal bacterial infections.

    Low toxicity and good animal tolerability

    It has little impact on the normal flora of animals, with mild and rare adverse reactions. Mild gastrointestinal discomfort is the main reaction in animals after administration. At the recommended dosage, it has no obvious toxic and side effects on important organs such as liver and kidney of livestock and poultry, ensuring the safety of breeding.

    Good bioavailability in animals

    As a veterinary cephalosporin antibiotic, it can be administered by intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection and other routes, with rapid absorption in animals, stable blood drug concentration and long-lasting efficacy, facilitating clinical application in animal husbandry.

    4. Application Scope

    Clinically, it is mainly used for the treatment and prevention of mild to moderate infections caused by sensitive bacterial strains in livestock and poultry, covering multiple systemic infections, and is also the core pharmaceutical raw material for the production of various veterinary cephalosporin preparations:

    Respiratory tract infections in livestock and poultry

    Bronchitis, pneumonia, pharyngitis, laryngitis and other diseases caused by sensitive bacteria in cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry.

    Skin and soft tissue infections in livestock and poultry

    Cellulitis, folliculitis, traumatic wound infections, mastitis in dairy cows and ewes, foot rot in sheep and other diseases caused by sensitive bacteria.

    Urinary system infections in livestock and poultry

    Cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis and other diseases caused by sensitive bacteria in livestock and poultry.

    Other infections

    Metritis in sows, endometritis in cows, omphalitis in young animals caused by susceptible strains; it can also be used for the prevention of postoperative infections in livestock and poultry.

    Veterinary drug production

    It is the key raw material for the production of veterinary preparations such as Cephalonium injection, powder and ointment.

    5. Usage Precautions & Adverse Reactions

    Adverse Reactions

    The adverse reactions of this product are mild and rare with a low incidence rate. The most common adverse reactions are mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and decreased appetite in animals; occasional local reactions such as redness, swelling and pain at the injection site, which can be relieved spontaneously after drug withdrawal; rare adverse reactions include transient elevation of transaminase and mild abnormality of renal function indexes, all of which are reversible after drug withdrawal.

    Contraindications

    It is strictly contraindicated for animals with a history of allergic reaction to Cephalonium, other cephalosporin antibiotics or penicillins.

    Special Breeding Groups

    It should be used with caution in pregnant and lactating livestock and poultry, and only when the therapeutic benefit outweighs the potential risk. The dosage for young and weak animals should be adjusted according to age, weight and physical condition, and the medication should be guided by a veterinarian. For animals with renal insufficiency, the dosage should be reduced according to the degree of renal function damage, and renal function should be monitored if necessary.

    Drug Interactions

    Concurrent use with probiotic preparations for animals may reduce the activity of probiotics, and the interval between medications is recommended to be more than 2 hours. Combined use with nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycoside antibiotics may increase the risk of renal damage, so combined use should be avoided or renal function should be closely monitored. It is not advisable to use it with alcohol-containing drugs during medication to prevent adverse reactions.

    Other Precautions

    In case of severe allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock in animals during medication, immediate drug withdrawal and emergency treatment measures should be taken. If the infection symptoms of animals are not relieved or aggravated during the medication period, the pathogenic bacteria should be rechecked and the treatment plan should be adjusted in time. Drug residues should be strictly controlled in accordance with veterinary drug residue standards to ensure the safety of animal products.

    6. Storage Conditions

    1. Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight, high temperature and open fire;
    2. Strictly control the storage temperature between 2℃ and 8℃, and freezing is strictly prohibited to avoid damage to product performance;
    3. Keep the inner and outer packages tightly sealed to prevent the product from absorbing moisture, oxidizing, deliquescing and being contaminated by microorganisms;
    4. Store separately from toxic, harmful, corrosive and incompatible substances, and avoid mixed storage and transportation;
    5. The shelf life is 24 months under the specified storage conditions; do not use the product if it exceeds the expiration date indicated on the package;
    6. Take anti-shock, anti-pressure and temperature control measures during transportation to ensure that the transportation environment meets the storage temperature requirements, and avoid package damage and product deterioration.
