Physical and Chemical Properties

1,4-Diisopropylbenzene is a colorless to pale yellow clear liquid under normal temperature and pressure, with a faint aromatic hydrocarbon odor. It is insoluble in water, highly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, benzene, toluene and petroleum ether, and miscible with most aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons. It has good thermal stability and chemical inertness under ambient conditions, with a boiling point of 203-205 ℃, a melting point of - 62 ℃, a relative density (20/4 ℃) of 0.854-0.858, and a refractive index (n20/D) of 1.482-1.484.

Main Applications

As an important fine chemical intermediate and aromatic hydrocarbon raw material, it is widely used in organic synthesis, rubber and plastic, petrochemical and other industries. Its core applications include:

Being a key raw material for the synthesis of p-diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide (DHP) and dicumyl peroxide (DCP), which are important crosslinking agents and initiators for rubber, plastic and polymer materials;
Used in the preparation of rubber auxiliaries, plastic antioxidants and light stabilizers, improving the aging resistance and mechanical properties of polymer products;
Serving as a high-boiling point solvent and diluent for coatings, inks and industrial adhesives, with good compatibility with resin systems;
As a raw material for the production of aromatic derivatives, and also used in the blending of high-grade fuel oil to improve its combustion performance.

Storage and Handling

Store in a sealed, dry and cool well-ventilated container, away from heat sources, open fire and direct sunlight. Keep it separate from strong oxidants, strong acids and strong alkalis to avoid mixed storage and transportation. It is a flammable liquid; operate with protective equipment such as anti-static gloves and goggles, and take anti-static measures during handling and transfer.

Stability

Stable under normal temperature and pressure, no obvious decomposition or reaction occurs. Decomposition may occur only under high temperature (above 300 ℃) or strong catalytic conditions, producing small molecular hydrocarbons such as propylene and benzene.
