Econazole nitrate is a pyrrole antifungal drug and a dechlorinated derivative . It has antibacterial activity against Candida, chromomyces, glomus, histoplasmon, Sporothrix, Trichophyton, etc.

Nizoral is a pyrrole-based antifungal drug, a dechlorinated derivative of miconazole. It has antibacterial effects against Candida species, Trichosporon species, Coccidioides species, Histoplasma species, and Sporothrix species, and also has antibacterial activity against Trichophyton species and some species of the Aspergillus genus. It has poor effects on Aspergillus, Scedosporium, certain melanized genera, and Mucor species. It interferes with the activity of cytochrome P450, thereby inhibiting the biosynthesis of the main sterol in fungal cell membranes - ergosterol, damaging the fungal cell membranes and altering their permeability, causing important intracellular substances to leak out. It can inhibit the biosynthesis of triacylglycerol and phospholipids in fungi, inhibit the activity of oxidase and peroxidase, cause accumulation of intracellular hydrogen peroxide, leading to submicroscopic structural deterioration and cell necrosis in cells. For Candida albicans, it can inhibit the process of its spores transforming into invasive hyphae. It is suitable for tinea manus, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea versicolor, and cutaneous candidiasis.
