Acrylic acid is a clear, colorless, and highly reactive carboxylic acid with a sharp, acrid odor, acting as a vital industrial building block for plastics, coatings, adhesives, and superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) . Primarily produced via the catalytic oxidation of propylene, it is commonly stabilized with MEHQ to prevent premature polymerization during storage. It is a flammable liquid, poses severe skin/eye burn hazards, is toxic to aquatic life, and is completely miscible in water.
