Nicotinamide, also known as nicotinic acid, vitamin B3, or vitamin PP, is a water-soluble vitamin belonging to the B-complex group. It is a component of coenzyme I (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD) and coenzyme II (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, NADP). In the human body, the nicotinamide component of these two coenzymes exhibits reversible hydrogenation and dehydrogenation properties, acting as a hydrogen carrier in biological oxidation. It promotes tissue respiration, biological oxidation processes, and metabolism, and plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of normal tissues, particularly the skin, digestive tract, and nervous system.
