• It is a nine-amino-acid peptide with the sequence Cys-Tyr-Ile-Gln-Asn-Cys-Pro-Leu-Gly-NH₂ (with a disulfide bridge between Cys¹ and Cys⁶). Its common CAS numbers are 50-56-6 (free base) and 6233-83-6, with a molecular formula of C₄₃H₆₆N₁₂O₁₂S₂ and a molecular weight of approximately 1007.19. Physically, it appears as a white to yellowish-brown hygroscopic powder, highly soluble in water, and should be stored at 2-8°C.

Oxytocin acetate is the acetate form of oxytocin. Oxytocin is a nonapeptide hormone secreted by the hypothalamus and is stored and released in the body in the form of a neurohypophyseal hormone. Oxytocin acetate is synthetically produced. Its chemical structure is the same as that of natural oxytocin. It is made into the acetate form only to increase its stability and facilitate formulation processing.
