1. Description

Ascorbic acid glucoside is a glycosylated derivative of vitamin C (ascorbic acid), formed by the enzymatic linkage of vitamin C and glucose; its chemical name is 2-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-L-ascorbic acid. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is highly soluble in water, with a solubility of up to 100 mg/mL. This compound remains stable in formulations. When applied to the skin, it is slowly hydrolyzed by the skin’s natural enzymes (α-glucosidase), gradually releasing active vitamin C. Compared to native vitamin C, ascorbyl glucoside overcomes the drawbacks of easy oxidation and poor stability while retaining the natural biological functions of vitamin C. Storage conditions are 2–30°C, protected from light, and kept in a sealed container.

2. Application

(1) Skin-brightening products: Added as a skin-brightening ingredient to skincare products such as serums, creams, lotions, and toners to inhibit melanin production, brighten the complexion, and fade dark spots and age spots.

(2) Anti-aging and anti-wrinkle products: Used in the development of anti-aging products designed to reduce wrinkles and improve skin elasticity; it helps firm the skin by promoting collagen synthesis.

(3) Sunscreen and Photoaging Protection Products: Added to daily moisturizers and sunscreen products to inhibit UV-induced photoaging and protect the skin from sun damage.

(4) Antioxidant skincare products: As a stable antioxidant ingredient, it is used in functional skincare products to neutralize free radicals and protect skin cells from oxidative damage.

(5) Research applications: As a stable precursor to vitamin C, it is used in studies on skin penetration, antioxidant mechanisms, and the development of drug delivery systems.

3. Main Efficacy

(1) Inhibiting tyrosinase activity: By inhibiting tyrosinase activity, it blocks the melanin synthesis pathway, reduces melanin production, and delivers skin-brightening benefits.

(2) Promotes collagen synthesis: After being enzymatically released as active vitamin C, it acts as a cofactor for prolyl hydroxylase and lysyl hydroxylase, participating in the collagen synthesis process to promote collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and reduce wrinkles.
