  • Description

Sulfolane is used as a stationary phase and analytical reagent in gas chromatography, and also as a polar solvent with strong solubility and good selectivity in organic synthesis. Most organic compounds and polymers are soluble in sulfolane or miscible with it. It is mainly used as an extractant for aromatic hydrocarbon extraction, a solvent for polymer spinning or casting, for the purification of natural gas and syngas, refinery gas, and for desulfurization of syngas, as well as as a solvent for rubber and plastics. In addition, it can be used in the textile printing and dyeing industry as a dyeing auxiliary agent, making colors brighter and more lustrous. Sulfolane solvent has high solubility for aromatic hydrocarbons, good selectivity, good thermal stability, low vapor pressure, low toxicity, and no corrosiveness to carbon steel. Therefore, sulfolane extraction technology has become the most widely used aromatic hydrocarbon extraction technology in the world. Applications include natural gas purification and desulfurization, aromatic hydrocarbon extraction from reformed oils, and removal of impurities such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and organic sulfur from hydrogen. It is a highly efficient and versatile solvent; a stationary phase in gas chromatography (maximum operating temperature 100℃, solvent acetone); used for separating and analyzing lower hydrocarbon isomers; and as a selective solvent for gas-liquid extraction to extract aromatic hydrocarbons from aliphatic hydrocarbons and remove acidic gases from gas mixtures.
