Ginsenoside Rg5

Ginsenoside Retinol-like/Rare-type Rg5 (Ginsenoside Rg5) is a rare dammarane-type tetracyclic triterpenoid saponin found in black or red ginseng that functions primarily as a highly potent anti-tumor agent, a central neuroprotectant (anti-neuroinflammatory), a metabolic regulator, and a vascular stabilizer. Structurally generated via the dehydration and loss of sugar chains from primary protopanaxadiol (PPD) saponins during intensive thermal processing (steaming), its unique double-bond configuration at the C-20 position makes it exceptionally lipophilic. Mechanistically, it easily crosses the blood-brain barrier and cell membranes to disrupt oncogenic survival axes like PI3K/Akt/mTOR, suppress NF-\(\kappa \)B/NLRP3 inflammasome pathways, and enhance Scavenger Receptor Class B Member 1 (SR-B1) or AMPK signaling.
