GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1, also known as copper peptide or blue copper peptide) is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide complex that was first identified in human plasma in 1973. It is composed of three amino acids — glycine, histidine, and lysine — chelated with a divalent copper ion (Cu²⁺). The tripeptide has a strong affinity for copper(II) ions, and the resulting complex is responsible for a wide range of biological activities relevant to tissue regeneration and skin health.
In the human body, plasma concentrations of GHK average about 200 ng/mL at age 20 but decline to approximately 80 ng/mL by age 60.
