What it is used for:
SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a novel mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that selectively binds to cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane, thereby improving mitochondrial bioenergetics, reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and inhibiting mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPT) opening. It is currently in multiple clinical trials and is primarily used for the following:
