Protoporphyrin IX, also known as protoporphyrin IX or Kammere's porphyrin, has a CAS number of 553-12-8, a molecular formula of C34H34N4O4, a molecular weight of 562.658, and appears as a purple powder or brownish yellow prismatic crystal. It is sensitive to light and air. Its density is 1.3 ± 0.1 g/cm ³, boiling point is 1122.0 ± 65.0 ° C, flash point is 632.4 ± 34.3 ° C, easily soluble in chloroform, glacial acetic acid, and ethanol solutions containing hydrochloric acid, slightly soluble in dilute alkali, and stored at 2-8 ° C in the dark. This substance is the final intermediate in the heme biosynthesis pathway and participates in cellular metabolism as a target of Human Endogenous Metabolite. It is clinically used to treat viral hepatitis (with an effective rate of 94.2% for acute hepatitis and 66.7% for chronic persistent hepatitis) and hyperbilirubinemia. In the field of materials, the hydrogel prepared by combining protoporphyrin as photosensitizer and polydopamine can be applied to the photothermal oxidation sterilization of bacterial infected wounds.
