α-Ketoglutaric acid (in English: α-Ketoglutaric acid) is one of the two ketone-containing derivatives of  (unless otherwise specified, the term "ketoglutaric acid" usually refers to the α form. The β form merely has a different position of the ketone group and is less commonly used). It is a white, fine crystalline powder. Melting point: 113.5ºC. It is soluble in water, alcohols, and extremely insoluble in ethers. It turns pale yellowish-gray over time and is prone to deliquescence. [1]
The anion of this substance, α-ketoglutarate, is an important biological compound. It is the ketone acid product of glutamate deamination and is an intermediate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle.

Application
1. Mainly used as an ingredient in sports nutrition beverages.
