Inhibitor of cytochrome P-450 (CYP) enzymes

Cedrol is a bioactive sesquiterpene and a potent competitive inhibitor of cytochrome P-450 (CYP) enzymes. Cedrol inhibits CYP2B6-mediated bupropion hydroxylase and CYP3A4-mediated midazolam hydroxylation with Ki of 0.9 μM and 3.4 μM, respectively.Studies show that it is not only an effective competitive inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes, affecting drug metabolism, but also shows significant potential in areas like anti-tumor activity, neuroprotection, anti-anxiety, antibacterial effects, and skin health. Its mechanisms involve inducing tumor cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, regulating neurotransmitter systems, and inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways. What's especially important is that its good blood-brain barrier permeability lays a key foundation for its use in central nervous system-related conditions, such as neuropathic pain and anxiety.
