In the leather industry, it is used in the depilation and tanning processes of raw hides to break down keratin on the hide surface; it replaces highly polluting sodium sulfide, thereby reducing the burden on wastewater treatment. In the mineral processing sector, particularly for non-ferrous metal ores such as copper, lead, and zinc, it serves as a sulfidation flotation modifier, adjusting the potential of the slurry to improve the separation and recovery rates of metal minerals, making it a standard chemical in mining operations. In the dye industry, it is used in the synthesis of sulfur dyes, providing sulfur-based functional groups to ensure the colorfastness of the dyes. In the water treatment industry, it can remove heavy metal ions and precipitate pollutants such as nickel, cadmium, and lead from wastewater, making it suitable for treating wastewater from electroplating and smelting operations.
