Sermorelin acetate/Sermorelinacetate (also known as INN/Geref/Gerel), also known as GHRH (1-29), is a peptide analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and is used as a diagnostic agent for assessing growth hormone (GH) secretion and for diagnosing growth hormone deficiency. It is a 29-amino acid polypeptide representing the 1-29 fragment from endogenous human GHRH and is considered to be the shortest fully functional fragment of GHRH.

Mechanism:

A synthetic 29-amino-acid peptide (H-Tyr-Ala-Asp-Ala-Ile-Phe-Thr-Asn-Ser-Tyr-Arg-Lys-Val-Leu-Gly-Gln-Leu-Ser-Ala-Arg-Lys-Leu-Leu-Gln-Asp-Ile-Met-Ser-Arg-NH₂) identical to the amino-terminal segment of endogenous human GHRH. Sermorelin binds to the GHRH receptor (GHRHR) on anterior pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating pulsatile GH synthesis and secretion via the cAMP/PKA pathway. Unlike exogenous GH, sermorelin preserves the endogenous GH pulsatility and IGF-1 feedback loop.
