Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide (DSIP) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide (a peptide consisting of 9 amino acids) that was first isolated in 1974 from the cerebral venous blood of sleeping rabbits by the Swiss research team led by Schoenenberger and Monnier. Its name derives from its profound ability to specifically induce delta-wave (slow-wave, deep sleep) activity in the electroencephalogram (EEG) when administered intracerebroventricularly.
