1. Physical Properties
A white, lustrous, crystalline powder with a distinctive pungent odor that readily sublimates at room temperature. It is practically insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in hot water and diethyl ether, and completely soluble in most organic solvents, including ethanol, benzene, and carbon disulfide.
2. Chemical Properties
(1) Core Reactivity: As a typical cyclic anhydride, it undergoes three characteristic reactions: it gradually hydrolyzes in the presence of moisture to form phthalic acid; it undergoes alcoholysis with alcohols to form various phthalates; and it undergoes amide formation to produce the corresponding amide products.
(2) Derivative Synthesis Capabilities: It can react with aromatic hydrocarbons via the Friedel–Crafts acylation reaction to synthesize important anthraquinone chemical intermediates; in industrial production, it often replaces phthalic acid to directly participate in various esterification reactions.
(3) Safety-Related Properties: It is classified as a flammable substance and poses a combustion risk when exposed to open flames, high temperatures, or strong oxidizing agents; combustion decomposition products include carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
3. Major Applications
(1) Core Downstream Sectors: Approximately 60% of industrial-grade products are used to produce phthalate plasticizers for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), making it a core raw material for the domestic plasticizer industry.
(2) Resin Synthesis: Approximately 30% of the product is used to prepare saturated/unsaturated polyester resins and alkyd resins; it can also serve as an acid anhydride curing agent for epoxy resins, suitable for room-temperature curing of low-molecular-weight epoxy resins.
(3) Other Applications: The remaining portion can be used to produce saccharin, dye intermediates, pesticide adjuvants, and fragrance components, as well as rust inhibitors for steel equipment, covering multiple fields such as fine chemicals and pharmaceutical synthesis.

The product strictly complies with the GB/T 2961-2014 national standard, accompanied by a complete set of MSDS, commodity inspection reports, and hazardous packaging certificates, and meets EU REACH import and export requirements. Standard packaging includes 200 kg galvanized closed-top steel drums and 1,000 L IBC containers. For large volumes, bulk transport via tank containers is available. Storing and transporting the product in a sealed, light-protected environment effectively delays oxidation and discoloration. Supply is stable and ample, supporting full-container and consolidated shipments for international trade, and meeting global chemical procurement and custom fine chemical production needs.
