VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide originally isolated from porcine intestine and widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems. It functions as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. VIP acts through binding to VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptors, which are class II G protein-coupled receptors. The peptide possesses an α-helical structure in its C-terminal region and is highly conserved across mammalian species.
