8-Amino-1-naphthol-3,6-disulfonic acid monosodium salt (CAS 5460-09-3), commonly known as H-Acid monosodium salt, is a naphthalene derivative with the molecular formula C₁₀H₈NNaO₇S₂ and a molecular weight of 341.30 g/mol. It is a gray to light brown crystalline powder that is soluble in water. H-Acid is a key intermediate in the synthesis of azo dyes, particularly for the production of reactive dyes and acid dyes used in textile applications.

Synthetic Process

H-Acid is synthesized by the sulfonation of naphthalene derivatives, followed by nitration, reduction, and hydrolysis under controlled conditions to obtain the desired substitution pattern.

Mechanism of Action

The amino and hydroxyl groups enable diazotization and coupling reactions for azo dye synthesis. The sulfonic acid groups provide water solubility and binding properties to textile fibers.
