IGF-1 DES, also known as Des(1-3) IGF-1, is a synthetic truncated peptide like Growth Factor 1. This peptide is engineered by removing the first three amino acids (Gly-Pro-Glu) from the N-terminal of full-length native IGF‑1. This specific structural modification drastically reduces its binding affinity to Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Proteins (IGFBPs).

In biological research, IGFBPs normally bind to IGF-1 and limit its availability and activity. By weakening this protein binding interaction, IGF‑1 DES maintains strong local biological activity and is not readily sequestered by IGFBPs. Compared with full-length IGF‑1, IGF‑1 DES demonstrates faster onset and more localized effects in cell and tissue research models.
