myo-Inositol Trispyrophosphate hexasodium (ITPP hexasodium, CAS 23103-35-7) is a synthetic, membrane-permeant allosteric effector of hemoglobin (Hb). Its chemical formula is C₆H₆Na₆O₂₁P₆ with a molecular weight of 737.88 g/mol. ITPP reduces the oxygen-binding affinity of hemoglobin and facilitates the release of oxygen by red blood cells, thereby counteracting the effects of hypoxia in conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. It is a white to off-white solid powder that is soluble in water (may require sonication for complete dissolution) and is hygroscopic.

Synthetic Process

The synthesis of ITPP hexasodium salt involves the formation of a highly strained trispyrophosphate cage structure from myo-inositol.
