By activating melanocortin receptors, particularly MC1, it triggers melanin synthesis in melanocytes, leading to a natural, long-lasting tan without harmful UV exposure. Unlike traditional sun tanning, which exposes skin to DNA-damaging UVB and UVA rays, Melanotan 2 induces a regulated biological process within skin cells to develop a tan.
Photoprotection: Melanotan 2 shows potential as a photoprotective agent.
