SS-31 (also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131) is a mitochondrial targeted antioxidant tetrapeptide, composed of 4 amino acids (sequence: H-D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂), with a molecular formula of C₃₂H₄₉N₉O₅ and a molecular weight of approximately 639.79 Da. It exerts a protective effect by specifically binding to cardiolipin in the inner membrane of mitochondria and is currently a hot molecule in the study of diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
