LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene) – Injection & Film Grade

    Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a versatile thermoplastic polymer produced from ethylene through a high-pressure free-radical polymerization process. Its highly branched molecular structure gives LDPE a lower density and degree of crystallinity compared with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), resulting in excellent flexibility, impact resistance, processability, and low-temperature performance.

LDPE is widely used across plastic manufacturing, packaging, film production, injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming, coating, and other thermoplastic processing applications. Its combination of flexibility, chemical resistance, electrical insulation, low moisture absorption, and ease of processing makes it a preferred material for demanding industrial and commercial applications.

Key Properties and Advantages of LDPE

    • Excellent processability and machinability for a wide range of thermoplastic applications

    • Easy weldability, making it suitable for heat sealing and thermal welding

    • Excellent thermoforming characteristics

    • High chemical and corrosion resistance

    • Low moisture absorption

    • No water absorption

    • Good abrasion and wear resistance

    • Excellent electrical insulation properties

    • High flexibility and impact resistance

    • High tensile strength and elongation at break

    • Excellent freezing and low-temperature resistance

    • Good dimensional flexibility for film and molded applications

    • Operating temperature range of approximately -50°C to +85°C

    Chemical and Physical Performance

LDPE demonstrates good chemical stability and provides strong resistance to acids, alkalis, and salts, with the exception of strongly oxidizing acids. Its low water and moisture absorption characteristics make it suitable for applications where moisture resistance is important.

The material also offers excellent electrical insulation performance, making it useful in selected electrical and cable-related applications. Its relatively high melt flow and fluidity provide efficient processing across several conventional thermoplastic manufacturing technologies.

    LDPE Processing Applications

LDPE can be processed using a broad range of manufacturing techniques, including:

    • Injection molding

    • Extrusion molding

    • Film extrusion

    • Blow molding

    • Rotational molding

    • Coating

    • Foaming

    • Thermoforming

    • Hot-jet welding

    • Thermal welding and heat sealing

These processing characteristics make LDPE suitable for flexible packaging, plastic films, molded components, industrial products, protective coatings, containers, and various consumer and commercial plastic applications.

LDPE Injection Grade – Technical Specifications

Test / Property Typical Value Unit
Melt Flow Rate (MFR) 15 g/10 min
    Density 0.922 g/cm³
    Tensile Yield Strength 7 MPa
    Elongation at Break 75 %
    Vicat/Wien Softening Point 85 °C

LDPE Injection Grade is designed for applications requiring good melt flow, efficient molding, flexibility, and reliable mechanical performance. Its MFR of 15 g/10 min supports easy processing in suitable injection molding applications.

LDPE Film Grade – Technical Specifications

Test / Property Typical Value Unit
Melt Flow Rate (MFR) 2 g/10 min
    Density 0.9225 g/cm³
    Tensile Strength 9 MPa
    Elongation at Break 500 %
Fish Eyes, max. (0.3–2 mm) 30 n/1200 cm²
    Stripes 20 cm/20 m³

LDPE Film Grade is formulated for flexible film applications where high elongation, tensile performance, flexibility, and consistent extrusion characteristics are important. With an elongation at break of up to 500%, it is well suited to applications requiring substantial flexibility and stretchability.

    LDPE Applications

Depending on the grade and processing method, LDPE is commonly used in:

    • Flexible packaging films

    • Plastic bags and liners

    • Shrink and protective films

    • Agricultural and industrial films

    • Coatings and laminations

    • Injection-molded plastic products

    • Blow-molded containers

    • Extruded plastic components

    • Thermoformed products

    • Electrical insulation applications

    • General-purpose flexible plastic products

    Why Choose LDPE?

LDPE offers an excellent balance of flexibility, impact resistance, chemical resistance, moisture resistance, electrical insulation, low-temperature performance, and processing efficiency. Its high elongation and easy processing make it particularly valuable for manufacturers producing flexible films and molded plastic products.

Whether you require LDPE injection grade for molding applications or LDPE film grade for flexible packaging and film extrusion, LDPE provides dependable performance and versatile processing characteristics across a wide range of industrial applications.

solid; appearance depends upon method of forming; Chemical and physical properties are markedly affected by increasing density, which is affected by the shape and spacing of the molecular chain. Low-density materials have highly branched and widely spaced chains, whereas high-density materials have comparatively straight and closely aligned chains. Low-density polyethylene (0.926–0.9409 g/cm
